Adblocker is not working on Twitch – quick fix

Lillie Spikes

It can be very annoying when your adblocker is not working on Twitch. This is because too many ads may keep popping up and interrupting your live streaming.

On average, a normal functioning ad blocker can block about 90% of the ads in a streaming session.

This ensures that you have a good watching experience with fewer interruptions. You can focus on the content of the broadcast rather than the advertisements that demand your attention.

Several reasons have been discovered as the cause of Adblock not working on Twitch for many users. Some of these problems include;

  • You have not updated your Adblock to the newest version.
  • The settings of your Adblock are not properly configured.
  • Conflicting of Adblock with two or more other similar browser extensions.
  • Failure to include some of the “more advanced” settings in your Adblock settings.
  • Twitch updated its anti-ad-blocking settings, but Adblock has not yet been updated.

Some of these solutions might sound difficult, but they are nothing to worry about.

The following explanation contains a step-by-step guide on how you can execute the solution to each of the problems.

1. Update your Adblock to the newest version

Updating your adblocker to the latest version regularly is one of the most effective yet straightforward solutions to unwanted ad pop-ups on Twitch.

Services such as Twitch are frequently changing their ways of displaying ads. Their policy explicitly states that while they are not against adblockers, constant improvements on Twitch might also affect how your adblocker works. These improvements may cause the ad blocker to become outdated and cannot block ads.

As a result, most Twitch users will find that their Adblock isn’t working, even when it’s enabled.

  • Step 2: On the top-right corner, check “Developer Mode” and click on it.
  • Step 3: Click “Update” on the far left. All your extensions are now updated to the latest versions.
  • Step 4: Restart your Chrome to ensure that the changes take effect.
  • Step 5: Open Twitch to check whether your problem has been solved.

2. Configure the settings of your Adblock

The Adblock has a setting referred to as “Allow Acceptable Ads.” When this setting is ON, you will see ads popping up on Twitch.

You will need to disable this setting first. The steps are as follows;

  • Step 1: On the top-right corner of the Chrome Browser, click on the adblocker icon to open.
  • Step 2: When the pop-up appears, click on the gear icon, which will take you to Settings.
  • Step 3: On Settings Menu, click on the “General” tab on the left.
  • Step 4: Once in the “General” tab, unmark “Allow Acceptable Ads.” Next, turn your computer OFF/ON and then restart Chrome.
  • Step 5: Go to Twitch to see if the problem is solved.

 3. Check out whether Adblock is conflicting with other similar extensions

Some people believe that having more than one ad block extension will be more effective than having just one. But unfortunately, that is not necessarily true.

On the contrary, many users have reported that the adblockers could not block ads on Twitch just because they conflicted with one another. In such cases, more resources in your system are wasted, and you don’t receive anything useful.

Even if the Adblock doesn’t work on Twitch, you will have saved some resources on your system by disabling multiple adblockers.

4. Include advanced settings in the Adblock

It would be wise to utilize blocklisting and allow listing features to reap maximum benefits from Adblock.

5. Consider using a different adblocker

Although AdBlock is the most popular ad blocker, you can always look for an alternative. This will allow you to enjoy Twitch and have the streaming experience you want without disturbing ads.

Many Twitch users have reported adblockers like uBlock Origin (Firefox/Chrome) working perfectly.

You can temporarily switch to this adblocker before returning to Adblock once the issue has been fixed. But always remember to keep one adblocker active at a time.

6. Use a VPN (Virtual Private Network)

You can also consider using other different browsers that will more effectively block ads on Twitch.
