Is FedEx tracking not working? Troubleshooting guide

Lillie Spikes

FedEx allows you to know the status of your shipment or proof of delivery through tracking. By opening an account, you will get a tool that will give shipment updates to find the exact location of your packages.

However, you may sometimes encounter FedEx tracking problems, whereby the feature stops working, making it difficult for you to know the status of your items. So, what should you do?

The most common reason why FedEx is not working is that it has not found your tracking number or the system has not updated your number.

Furthermore, FedEx could be experiencing a system-wide issue that is affecting its tracking services, making it challenging for customers to know the location of their packages.

If you have encountered a problem where FedEx tracking is unavailable or not working, this troubleshooting guide should come in handy.

How to troubleshoot FedEx when it is not working

If FedEx is not working, you can troubleshoot the problem as follows:

1. Wait for FedEx to update your tracking information

If FedEx tracking is not updating, you will have to wait at least 24 hours before the system can update your information. Generally, FedEx scans packages are several points between pickup and delivery, with varying scanning frequencies.

Therefore, updating your tracking information can take more than 24 hours, but your package will still be towards its final destination.

2. Track your package without the tracking number

If your FedEx tracking number is not working, tracking your package without the number is possible.

Here is what you should do:

  • Track your shipment online using the reference number assigned to your shipment.
  • Track your shipment using the Door Tag number that starts with the letters DT followed by 12 digits.
  • Track your package using the FedEx Office order number.
  • Use FedEx InSight to track your package without the tracking number.
  • Call FedEx on 03456 07 08 09 to speak to a Customer Service Agent.

FedEx InSight is a service that allows you to monitor your inbound and outbound shipments and third-party shipments billed to your account without a tracking number.

You have to sign up for the service to track your packages.

3. Check your tracking number

FedEx tracking is not working because you have provided an incorrect tracking number. The FedEx tracking number is 12 characters long and is available in positions 21-34 of the barcode.

Therefore, check to ensure you have entered the correct number.

4. Check for FedEx service outage

FedEx tracking is not working because of a service or system outage. You can confirm FedEx tracking outages by contacting the service through their Facebook page or Twitter handle.

Alternatively, contact customer support at 1.800.463.3339.

Conclusion

Your FedEx tracking is not working because of different reasons. For example, FedEx has not updated your tracking information to its system, or the company has a system or service outage.

You do not require the tracking number if you still want to track your package. Instead, use the reference number assigned to your shipment, Door Tag number, FedEx Office order number, or FedEx InSight.

Alternatively, call the customer service team on 03456 07 08 09 or 1.800.463.3339 for further assistance.
