A section of Discord users has been complaining recently of a gray screen that shows up when you open the app.

From our research, the problem is prevalent among those who use the Windows operating system. So, why does this occur, and how can you eliminate a gray screen on Discord?

When you open Discord anytime, the operating system finds the files where the application stores its data on the hard disk. It also locates an unused section of the main memory that is large enough to open the application.

If the files have an issue or are corrupted, Discord fails to open and shows a blank or gray screen. You can fix a gray screen on Windows 11 by locating the Discord cache file and deleting it.

But many things can also cause the gray screen.

Why is my Discord all grayed out?

These are the most common reasons why Discord is grayed out on Windows OS:

Outdated Discord software.

Corrupted Discord cache files.

Incorrect computer date and time.

Outdated computer graphics driver.

Incompatible operating system.

The Discord software can also fail to open because you have a VPN running on your machine.

How to fix a gray screen on Discord

Once you notice that Discord is stuck on a gray screen, you can take the following steps to fix it.

1. Restart your computer

Restarting your computer can fix many issues. Ideally, rebooting the device helps it run smoothly.

For example, it will clear the memory, stop tasks taking too much RAM, and fix other issues with installed programs.

Therefore, restart your computer and open Discord to try and fix the gray screen.

2. Run Discord in Compatibility Mode

Discord can fail to work if you recently updated your Windows operating system. In that case, you must run Discord in Compatibility Mode.

That way, the program will run using settings from an earlier version of Windows. Here is what to do:

Type Discord in the search box on the taskbar.

Right-click on it.

Select Open file location.

Right-click the program file.

Select Properties

Select the Compatibility tab.

Enable the option titled Run this program in compatibility mode.

Select an operating system from the dropdown window.

If you are unsure what to select, choose Windows 7.

Select Apply, then OK.

Go back to your desktop and double-click Discord to see if it has fixed the issue.

3. Delete Discord’s cache files

Discord stores cache files on the hard drive. The goal is to make it easier to access features. However, the files can get outdated or corrupted and cause the program to either fail to open or show a gray screen.

Here is how to delete it.

Launch Run by pressing the Windows key + R.

Type %appdata%.

Press Enter.

Locate a folder named Discord.

Delete the folder.

Alternatively, open the Discord folder and delete the Cache folder.

Go back to your desktop and open Discord.

4. Update Discord

An outdated Discord can cause many issues with the program. For example, you will notice Discord opens to a gray screen, the app fails to open, or it loads slowly.

Therefore, you can force a Discord update by doing the following:

Open the Discord.

While the application runs, press Ctrl + R or Command + R.

Next, install the latest Discord update to fix the gray screen.

5. Uninstall Discord

Consider uninstalling and reinstalling Discord to determine whether it can fix the issue. When you uninstall Discord, the app will delete all its files from your computer’s hard disk.

Therefore, any corrupt core files will go away. The idea is that it can be challenging to point out which files are causing problems. So, uninstalling the program is the only way to go.

After uninstalling Discord, go to the application’s official website to download it. Then, install the app and start fresh.

The app will come with new files that will fix the corrupted files you uninstalled. But the good news is that you will not lose your Discord data since you can access it by logging into the account.

6. Update your computer’s graphics card driver

The Graphics driver allows your computer’s OS and programs to use the graphics hardware. The program is also responsible for creating images on a screen and improving software performance.

Therefore, the gray screen you see when opening Discord could result from an outdated graphics card driver. You can update it as follows:

Right-click on Start.

Select Device Manager.

Expand Display Adapters.

Right-click your computer’s graphics card.

Select Update driver.

Choose the option labeled Search automatically for drivers and let Windows find and install the drivers.

If Windows gets the drivers, it will install them automatically.

Restart your computer.

Go back to your desktop and open Discord to see whether it has fixed the issue.

7. Toggle Discord’s Hardware Acceleration feature

Discord has a hardware acceleration feature that uses GPU. Its function is to ensure the software runs smoothly on your computer. You can Enable or Disable hardware acceleration on Discord. Enabling it means the app will occupy more CPU and GPU.

That can cause the program to have rendering issues. Also, if you Disable the feature, other applications may slow down.

Enabling or disabling hardware acceleration is a step you take when you have opened Discord. It will allow you to avoid the gray screen in the future.

Here is what to do:

Uninstall and reinstall Discord.

Open the app and log in.

Select User Settings (the gear icon).

Select Advanced.

Toggle the Hardware Acceleration feature by either enabling or disabling it.

Select OK.

Close Discord and open again to continue using it.

Conclusion

Discord shows a gray screen or fails to open when it has corrupted cached files. Also, the program can fail to open if it is out-of-date, runs on an incompatible OS, or the graphics card driver is out-of-date.

You can fix this issue by deleting the Discord cache folder on your hard drive. Alternatively, consider updating Discord and graphics card driver, reinstalling the app, or running Discord in compatibility mode in Windows.

Are you having trouble with Better Discord? What can you do when the app stops working?

Better Discord is an extension for the Discord client, which comes with added features that improve the functionality and appearance of the original app.

Some of these cool features include custom themes, plugins, and add-ons, debugging and UI tweaking features, creating your own themes and plugins, and more.

Unfortunately, even with these new features, the extension can stop working from time to time, which can be quite frustrating.

So, what can you do when Better Discord has stopped working? Below, we have compiled some of the most common Better Discord issues, as well as top troubleshooting tips and solutions that you can use to get it working again.

Better Discord not working: The most common problems

There are several Better Discord issues that users have reported. Below is a look at some of the most common ones:

Better Discord is not loading

The themes are not working

Better Discord themes are not showing

The app has disappeared

Better Discord is not installing

Better Discord themes and plugins are not downloading or installing

How to fix: Better Discord is not working

Here are a few solutions you can try if you are having problems with the Better Discord extension:

1. Make sure you have a working and stable internet connection

Image: Frederik Lipfert

Several problems you encounter while using Better Discord might be a result of a faulty internet connection. For example, your connection could be unstable or slow, or your PC or device could be receiving a weak Wi-Fi signal.

With any of these issues, you might have trouble loading or using the Better Discord features or even installing and updating the extension.

To fix these problems, first, make sure that your connection is working. If not, try rebooting your router as a glitch there could be the issue.

If the issue still persists, the problem could be on your internet provider’s side, in which case your options are to contact them for support or switch to another connection.

If your connection is working, the problem could be that it is slow or unstable. You can try moving your device closer to the router to boost the Wi-Fi signal.

If this doesn’t work, try connecting using a wired connection, or switching to another network – wireless or cellular – that is more stable.

If the issue still persists, the problem could be on your internet provider’s side, in which case your options are to contact them for support or switch to another connection.

2. Make sure Better Discord is active

Are Better Discord themes and plugins not showing? It is possible that your extension features have not been enabled. Fortunately, there is a simple fix for this – activate Better Discord.

To activate Better Discord:

Download and install the Better Discord extension. Make sure to close the Discord app before starting the process.

Launch your Discord app and go to the Settings section

On the Settings page, scroll down until you find the Better Discord menu

Click on the menu to navigate and activate different features such as the Emotes, Themes, Plugins, and Custom CSS

3. Refresh/restart Better Discord

Photo: Discord

Some Better Discord issues can be caused by a temporary glitch or a bug in the extension, or even the Discord app itself.

Examples of such issues include Better Discord not loading or crashing unexpectedly, themes and plugins not showing, or failing to work. On some occasions, Better Discord will just disappear from the menu.

Restarting or refreshing Better Discord can get rid of these temporary glitches or bugs, restoring its functionality. To refresh the extension:

Hit the Ctrl + R command on your keyboard when using Discord. This is a shortcut that will refresh the app and extension (just like pressing F5 when using a browser).

Log out and then log in to your Discord account. Doing this will restart the app, eliminating any temporary issues that might be affecting functionality.

End the Discord app process on your task manager. Launch the Task Manager on your PC and kill the Discord process. Then, re-launch and see if the Better Discord menu and features are working.

For better results, you can attempt restarting your PC after refreshing Better Discord.

4. Update your Discord app

An out-of-date Discord app is another reason why you might be having issues with the Better Discord. Usually, the app updates automatically. However, there are instances when the updates might fail, such as due to poor internet connection.

Fortunately, there is a way to force the Discord app to download and install the update:

Hit the CTRL + 5 keys on your keyboard to refresh the discord app. Make sure you have maximized the app window when doing this.

Once refreshed, the app will detect any available update and download it.

Wait a while then close and re-launch the app. Once it starts, the update will install and any issues stemming from outdated features will be fixed.

5. Move/rename the bdstorage.json file

If your Better Discord is not working or behaving weirdly, you could be dealing with corrupted files. Unfortunately, you can’t clear the app cache or data like with most applications.

However, it is possible to remove any corrupted files – by either moving or renaming the Better Discord local storage file on your PC (bdstorage.json).

To remove or rename the file:

Find the file location by going to C:\Users\username\AppData\Roaming on your PC and scrolling down to “BetterDiscord” folder.

Open the folder and scroll down to “bdstorage.json” file

Rename the file or move it to another folder on your PC.

Relaunch your Discord app and try using the Better Discord features.

Note: Some users have reported that deleting the “bdstorage.json” file can also work. However, doing so can cause a problem with the app later, especially if the files had not been corrupted. Therefore, it is safer to rename or move the file; if there is an issue later, you can always restore it.

6. Disable and remove custom themes and plugins on Better Discord

One of the best features of Better Discord is the custom themes and plugins. You can even create your own themes from scratch.

Unfortunately, this can work to your disadvantage as some of these themes and plugins can cause interference, causing the extension and app to stop working.

The good news is, you can fix the issue by removing the problematic theme and plugins. Unfortunately, since you don’t know which theme or plugin is the problem, the only solution is to remove all of them.

Then, you can re-install them again one by one, testing the app each time to find out where the problem is.

To remove the themes and plugins

Launch the Discord app and go to Settings

Open the Better Discord menu and go to Themes

Click on “Open Themes” to find a list of all the active themes on your extension

Right-click on the theme you want to remove and click on the “Delete” option

Repeat the same process with the plugins

7. Repair Better Discord using the installer

Are you still experiencing issues with Better Discord? The extension comes with a troubleshooting function that you can use to diagnose and repair problems. The function is available in the Better Discord installer application

Below is a step-by-step guide on how you can repair your extension:

Download the Better Discord installer

Launch the installer on your PC and choose the “Repair BetterDiscord” option

Allow the installer to finish repairing the extension

Once repaired, you will be asked to reinstall the Better Discord extension. Click “Yes” to complete the repair process.

8. Uninstall and reinstall Better Discord afresh

If the repair option did not work, your Better Discord extension could be harboring more problems. In this case, the best option is to remove it and install it afresh.

Launch the Better Discord installer and click on the uninstall option

In the next screen on the uninstall page, select the “Remove from Stable” option to delete all the local files

Once the uninstallation completes, download the latest version of the Better Discord extension

Install it on your PC then launch the Discord App to start using its functionalities.

Better Discord is a great add-on, which can help to improve the look and functionality of your Discord app greatly.

However, from time to time, the extension will experience issues. Some or all of the features may fail to work. Fortunately, the above solutions can help to fix any of the issues you might face.

If you find yourself still facing problems after attempting these fixes, you can try contacting Better Discord support.

You can access the support service by joining the Better Discord support channel on the Discord app.

As an application, Discord allows you to create multiple accounts for different uses. You can have one for personal, gaming, or work use.

Many people also have several identities for various gaming platforms. If you want to use one account, you will have to log out and then log back into the other.

That can be frustrating in the long run. But can you have two Discord accounts open at once?

Discord does not have a feature that allows users to run two instances of Discord at once. Furthermore, you can only create one account with one email address.

However, that does not mean you cannot use two Discord accounts at once.

You can use private browsing or open the accounts on multiple browsers. Another option is to switch off cookies from your browsers and try to log in to your accounts.

Can I have two Discord accounts on the same email?

The Discord system only allows a user to register one email address.

That means you cannot create multiple accounts associated with one email.

If you try to create a new account using the same email, you will get an error.

All you have to do is log in to your original profile or request a new password if you forgot it.

Is it against Discord TOS to have multiple accounts?

It is not against the Discord Terms of Service to have multiple accounts. However, if you use the profiles to abuse any Discord feature, that would be against the TOS.

Note that the company will take action against you. That could mean getting your account suspended.

How to use two Discord accounts at once

Here are some of the methods you can use to run two Discord accounts at once on different devices:

1. iPhone

If you have an iPhone, you can use private browsing to run multiple Discord accounts. Follow the steps below:

You can be in two Discord voice channels at once using a web browser on your device. The best applications to use are Shift or Stack browsers.

1. Shift browser

Shift is a desktop application that streamlines your accounts, apps, and workflows. You can use it to switch between Discord accounts without logging in and out. Here is how:

Download and install the Shift desktop application.

Open the software after the installation.

Click on Add Application.

Search for Discord.

Click on Save.

Sign in with your account.

If you want to go to multiple Discord voice channels simultaneously, repeat the above procedure several times. In each step, you will have to log in to a different account. Once done, access the voice channels.

2. Stack browser

Stack is a browser developed for internet users that prefer multitasking.

You can use it to manage your social media, messaging, emails, and productivity apps from one platform.

Here is how to use it to access two Discord voice channels at once:

Download and install Stack on your computer.

Open the Stack application and register for an account.

Input your email address to receive a password.

Paste the password back into Stack to continue.

Open the Discord website using Stack.

Log in to your account.

If you want to access multiple channels, open a new window in Stack.

Click on the three dots icon in the top-right corner.

Toggle the Private Session switch ON.

Open Discord in the new window.

You will see a login screen.

At this point, you can sign in to your other Discord account. If you want to be in several voice channels, you will have to open several windows.

How to clone a Discord app

It is against the Terms of Service to clone the Discord app. That means you will be modifying the official client and using an unofficial one.

The best solution would be to use the methods described above to run two accounts simultaneously.

Conclusion

You can have two Discord accounts open at once on any device. To do that, you will have to use private browsing on your computer and download the Discord Client desktop software.

Alternatively, install the Stack or Shift browser on your PC. Once done, open several windows and log in to as many accounts as possible.

If you are using a mobile device, install the Discord app and then open the PTB Discord web client and sign in to your accounts.

Discord opens up multiple communication channels over the internet. They are voice, video, and text.

The app is great for those who want to talk, chat, hang out, and stay close to family, friends, and communities that share a common interest.

But if you’ve tried to send videos on Discord, you may have realized that it sometimes doesn’t work.

To send videos on Discord, click the + icon in the message bar and select the video you would like to share before pressing Upload.

For this to work, the video must be of the supported format and the right size.

The file types supported by the application are MP4, MOV, AVI, FLV, MPEG4, 3GPP, and WebM, among others.

In addition, your membership tier will also determine the sizes of videos you can send. If you have a basic account, you can only send videos that are up to 8 MB.

If you want to bypass the 8MB limit on Discord, you need the Nitro account.

The Nitro membership will allow you to share MP4 files that are up to 50 MB in size or Discord Nitro to share up to 100 MB.

Now that you know about video requirements on discord, here are several ways of sending videos.

How to send videos on Discord via computer

If you are using a Windows PC, here is how you can send videos on Discord:

Open the Discord app on your PC.

Login to your account if necessary.

Click the plus (+) icon in the message bar for the channel you want to send the video to.

Locate the video you want to send.

Double-click on the file.

Click on Upload. You can add a comment if necessary.

The steps above will enable you to embed a video on Discord to allow people to watch it from within the application.

You can also use the above procedure to send the video using your Mac computer.

How to send videos on Discord through YouTube

You can use YouTube to send a video link on Discord. The application will embed the video and allow the recipient to view it within the app.

Here is how:

Log in to your YouTube account. Logging in will allow you to send long videos on Discord that are up to 15 minutes and larger than 8MB.

Once you open YouTube, click on the video camera icon on the top right side of your screen.

Click on Upload Video. Alternatively, select the option GO LIVE or choose a video from your device gallery if you are using the YouTube app.

Choose a video or drag and drop it into the browser.

Describe your video and choose a thumbnail.

Click on Done and copy the link provided.

Go to the Discord channel, chat session, or contact you want to share the video and paste the link.

Once done, the app will embed the link and allow the recipient to watch its corresponding video.

How to transfer a video from your phone to Discord

You can also transfer a video from your phone to Discord using the following steps:

Instead of opening the Discord app, go to the video you have saved in your device storage.

Highlight the video and tap on the share icon.

Locate Discord from the list of applications that pop up.

Tap on the Discord icon.

You will see the message preview.

Add a comment if necessary.

Select the name of the person from your contact list to whom you want to send the video.

Click on the send icon at the top of the chat window.

Wait for the video to automatically upload

Ensure that you send a video that is below 8 MB in size for this to work well.

Otherwise, you will have to subscribe to a higher tier to increase the size of files you can send to up to 100 MB.

If you do not want to use the premium service, use third-party software to compress video for Discord.

You can send video files on Discord in three different ways. These include using your Mac or Windows computer, YouTube, and your Android device for the Discord app.

Before sending any file, ensure it is not more than 8 MB if you use a basic account. Otherwise, you will have to upgrade your account so that you can send large sizes of up to 100 MB.

Also, ensure you are uploading a supported format before sending.
