MSN Money app not working? Troubleshooting tips

The MSN Money app is one of the most popular financial apps on the market. It has everything -from financial calculators and news to stock market charts.

Most of the time, it works without any hitches. However, just like any other app, MSN is bound to run into glitches from time to time. This is nothing to worry about, as these troubleshooting tips make most of the issues easy to fix.

Almost all the tips in this article will take a few minutes and require virtually no technical knowledge, so read on!

1. Check your internet connection

Your MSN app needs a stable internet connection to work seamlessly without crashing. So whenever it starts buffering, the most viable reason is that your internet is either too low or not working.

To work around this problem, follow the steps below:

  1. Run a speed test on your internet by visiting SpeedCheck on your preferred browser.
  2. If the speed is okay, disconnect your smartphone from the internet and switch off your router for about a minute.
  3. Turn the router on and try reconnecting the device to see if the problem is resolved.
  4. If the problem persists, switch from WiFi to mobile data or vice versa.

Assuming this doesn’t also work, proceed to the other methods.

2. Confirm if the site is down

MSN might crash if too many people are trying to log in to the app at once. This is because, like many other apps, it is designed to host a specific number at once.

The issue usually happens if there is news that can affect the financial markets. Many interested parties and investors will tend to log into the app to read the news and check how the stock market is reacting, as is expected.

To know if this is the case:

  1. Visit MSN’s official website to confirm whether the site is down too or if there is scheduled maintenance.
  2. If there is no maintenance going on, wait a few minutes and try to login in again.
  3. If maintenance is ongoing, the app should notify you when the site will be back up and running.

3. Check compatibility

MSN is a web app, meaning that it is designed to be compatible with most devices in the market. However, sometimes you might need to upgrade or downgrade the app or device to be compatible with your MSN version.

For context, MSN is designed to run on any iOS device with an operating system of 8.0 or later. As for android devices, it needs to be running on Android 5.0 or later.

If the app was running on your device fine before, the problem could have resulted because MSN auto-updated itself, and the current version isn’t supported on your device.

Therefore, try and visit your App Store, download the older version of the app, and see if it helps.

4. Restart your device

As easy as this sounds, restarting your device can instantly fix your problem. This hack typically clears any bugs hindering the MSN app from working.

To do this:

  1. Close the MSN app and all open background apps.
  2. Restart your phone and give it a few minutes.
  3. Switch it on again and try to see if it works. Alternatively, you could wait until your device runs out of battery and then charge it back up.
  4. Open the MSN app and see if it works.

5. Clear app cache

Sometimes, the MSN app might freeze or crash because it has stored too much unnecessary data and cache. Apps store this information to make your user experience pleasant.

To resolve this problem, follow the steps below.

  1. Go to Settings.
  2. Tap on Apps.
  3. Go to on MSN.
  4. Tap Storage.
  5. Tap Clear App Data and Cache.

6. Clear app your device storage

If your device storage is full or is almost full, you might need to declutter and clear data.

In addition, your MSN app might not be working because it updated into a new version that doesn’t have enough space to operate, considering your device is full.

In this case, you can delete the updated version and re-download the older version. Alternatively:

  1. Open Settings
  2. Tap Storage
  3. Decide what you want to delete that will free up enough space for the new MSN app.
  4. Delete the things you want, and relaunch MSN to check if it works.

7. Ensure that you are using the proper login credentials

For those who can’t log in, often, you might have used the wrong credentials.  This is especially true if you are trying to use a device other than the one with your MSN credentials saved.

  • Confirm that every detail you are keying in is correct
  • If it is, then confirm that the bank details you are trying to use have the money you need

You might need to delete and install the app if all else fails. Chances are, your MSN app is bug-ridden with a virus or bug inhibiting it from working as it should. Make sure to note down your credentials, as everything will be wiped out.
