Fix: New notification content hidden on Android

If you have a Samsung phone, you may have noticed that anytime you receive a notification, whether SMS or email, the display on your screen says Content Hidden.

That is because the content gets hidden when you have locked your screen. Thus, the only way of viewing the content is to unlock your phone.

Generally, the notifications feature lets you preview your new message or alerts when you have locked your screen, allowing you to read them without unlocking your phone. But if it says Content hidden, you must figure out how to unhide it.

You can turn off the content hidden notification in your phone’s settings.

But if you have a Samsung phone, the notification option has three settings:

  1. Show conversations, default and silent
  2. Hide silent conversations and notifications
  3. Don’t show any notifications.

Hide silent conversations and notifications is the default option on Samsung devices running Android 12 and above.

Note: Other Android phones have a different setting for hiding or showing a notification when you have locked your screen.

What does notification content hidden mean on Samsung?

The new notification content is not visible because it:

  • Hides sensitive messages.
  • Ensures privacy by preventing people from snipping into your messages.
  • Protects your personal information.

Although the feature may be handy, it is also possible that you may want to view notifications without unlocking your phone.
